Sarah Bartfeld: Bachelor of Communication-Advertising-Creative (Honours). (Soon to add Masters to that List). I’m 22, Facebook runs my life, but I haven’t ruled out MySpace, and i’m pretty sure Twitter will be my new favourite. I know how to cook 2 Minute-Noodles, I’ve worked in a shoe store, I’m addicted to Home and Away, LOVE reality television and yes, I am your typical Generation Y’er.

I graduated from the RMIT advertising degree in 2008 and have just completed my honours year. Now, I’m moving onto Masters. Learning and gaining insight is my life.

My Honours year consisted of a research project titled “A Digital Media Communication Strategy” which involved formulation of a hypothetical digital media advertising campaign targeted at young Australians in the 16 to 20 year age group, with a view to encourage and motivate young Australians to take a more active interest in the political issues of the day.

My research topic reflected the ways in which you can pursue the effective use of various communication media in political campaigns- much like the Obama Campaign did.

I aspire to have a career in advertising, being a part of a campaign team, working on issues and products that directly effect generation y. However, I’m not ruling out other products and issues.

I’m fascinated by the ‘over-night’ celebrity craze that has taken over television in past years. The way in which everyday people can become household names through advertising particularly interests me and working with this in the future would be amazing.

I’m particularly interested in the digital and social media side of advertising because as we all know, this is going to be the way of the future when it comes to targeting future generations.
